5 WAYS OF ADDING AN ELEGANT DESI ELEMENT TO YOUR DÉCOR.

Our living spaces provide us with the perfect opportunity to show off our unique personalities. Our abodes reflect our persona, they should not only be comfortable but also reflect our diverse roots and rich culture. It's all about making small changes that can have huge impacts on your homes. As an Indian immigrant, I have come up with 5 easy ways to bring the taste of home, to your homes.

ONE | Accessories

Accessories are like the icing on a cake, they offer visual interest and add details that can liven up any room. Here are some great ways to accessorize your home!  Incorporating things with a personal touch into any space is an inexpensive way to liven up your living environment, and also ensure you enjoy your home. Not only that, it can make a great conversation starter when you have visitors. To start small, try adding stuff like traditional antiques, earthen pots, idols of deities, and painted vases to your coffee table, side tables, or TV consoles. Besides that, an over-the-top mirror, a vase of flowers, or even a handful of books can add personality and character to an otherwise bland space.  Small décor items also sit well on any entryway furniture you might have.

     TWO | Accent Pillows

Accent pillows are a great way to add style and personality to your home that can completely change the look of a space by adding color and pattern. Think of decorative pillows as your personal style wrapped up in a small but explosive package. Because of the rich history behind the country’s crafts and textiles, each region’s local products have unique identities and looks. But try not to get overwhelmed, and choose fabrics with colorful prints and embroidery.

    THREE | Tapestries or Carpets

India is known for its luxurious traditional carpets. Their distinctive look is reminiscent of a majestic ancient era. Using such charming carpets can dramatically alter the look of space from just basic to breath-taking and add warmth to the room. For centuries, tapestries have been hung on walls as a form of décor and communication. There are tapestries that give glimpses of important historic religious and social moments. Both carpets and tapestries can make your room look sophisticated and elegant. They can be used for multiple purposes such as a tablecloth or a bedspread.

    FOUR | Wall Art

If you are ready to completely commit to the desi aesthetic, wall art is a great way! you can choose a large traditional print and make it the focal point of your home. Or you can use small prints tastefully spaced to add just a pinch of the Indian aesthetic. It serves as the foundation for your interior design, helping you create unity across all elements of your living space.

    FIVE | Decorative Lamps/ Lighting

The beautiful patterns created by traditional lamps are mesmerizing, place the smaller lamps on steps or next to decorative displays. These lamps will add a wow factor to any space, perfect to catch the intrigue of all guests. Traditional Jhumars are ornate and make for amazing centerpieces in spaces with higher ceilings.

Making your home aesthetically pleasing has never been easier. You just need to make sure that you have the right elements in place and add a few luxuries here and there. Just keep these tips in mind when choosing what pieces suit your space best and remember that any item can work as an accessory if it brings joy into your life.
